October 1-5, 2018

AP Human Geography
Mon. 10/1 - Epidemiologic Transition Model Stages 1-4. Worksheet with each stage C2K4 (p. 64-67). Compare the the DTM and discuss.  Vocabulary puzzle due (will be stamped today)
Tue. 10/2 -- DVD "Population Paradox" section on Sub-Saharan Africa and disease.  Research teams on world diseases, maps.  Assignment on Google classroom.
Wed. 10/3 -- How to measure health (end of C2K4).Health chart and predicting life expectancy. Note cards out for the quiz.  HW: Students will be able to make a 5X8 note card to use on the chapter 2 quiz tomorrow.  Students may fill one side of the card only. 
Thur. 10/4 -- Chapter 2 unit quiz (open note). Map Day #4 Russia Map. HW: Map due Friday.
Fri. 10/5 -- Introduction to migration vocabulary -- C3 K1 (p. 79-83) reading and reading worksheet.
HW: Finish worksheet as needed.

Economics
Mon 10/1 -- News on Tesla ($20 million fine) Watch Movie: "Tucker a Man and His Dream" Reading response questions provided. Students do one question really well.
Tue. 10/2 -- Finish "Tucker: A Man and his Dream" We will go right up to the end of class. I may have to fast forward about 5 minutes to finish. Great courtroom drama at the end.
Wed. 10/3 -- Reading response DUE. Powerpoint notes on market failure -- discussion.  Student will search local newspaper to find real examples of market failure.  They can work in groups or solo, but student will define the four types of market failure and explain how their examples meet the definition of market failure. We get to use scissors and glue :)
Thur. 10/4 -- Regulatory agencies:  What regulatory agencies does the U.S. have.  Students will work with a partner to explore the purpose and duties one one regulatory agency.  We will debrief at the end of class. 
Fri. 10/5 -- Monopolies are a fifth type of market failure.  That is why the FTC works to stop monopolies.  Current event reading on monopolies.

AP Human Geography

Mon. 9/24 -- DVD: Population Paradox: India, How to use gapminder.org and homework using gapminder to look up trends in life expectancy and TFR.
Tue. 9/25 -- Grade gapminder assignment.  Small group activity on population pyramids (this has no make-up assignment, but students should look at some pyramids to analyze trends.  HW: Graphing CDR and CBR in Sweden and Mexico (assignment on google drive).
Wed. 9/26 -- Lecture on the demographic transition model -- C2K3 (p. 56-57) Using the graphs from last night's homework students will answer questions about the DTM in Sweden and Mexico. Handout on the vocabulary crossword puzzles. HW: Finish any questions as necessary.
Thur. 9/27 -- Intro TEDtalk on "Global Population: Box by Box"  by Hans Rosling. PP notes on Birthrates and Malthus C2 K3 (p. 58-63).  Note:the internet went out in the afternoon, so not everyone was able to watch the Ted Talk. city-wide interruption with Chapter.
Fri. 9/28 -- Map Day #3 Europe.  HW: Finish the map of Europe.  Maps on Google Drive.

Economics
Mon. 9/24 -- PP lecture notes on Supply.  Reading from Chapter 6 on prices.  Lesson 1-2 p. 154-173. 
Tue. 9/25 -- Grade reading guide on prices,  Skits about prices to review concepts. Students with excused absences will be excused.
Wed. 9/26 -- QZ: Chapter 6 (open note). Partner project on creating an economic model. Students will review demand, supply, prices and elasticity.  Due Thursday.
Thur. 9/27 -- Menti-com word cloud on monopoly class discussion.  Reading on Competitive structures, Chapter 7, Lesson 1 p. 182. Worksheet due tomorrow.
Fri. 9/28 -- Senior Class meeting -- Guest speaker Craig Powers from Ingredion, collective Bargaining.

AP Human Geography
Mon. 9/17 -- Review for the test. Go through reading from National Geographic on sustainability along Baja Peninsula. HW: Study for the test -- review your three pillar notes on the oceans and work on the vocabulary words.  Quizlet.com = JonnieFenton
Tue. 9/18 -- Test over unit 1: Geographic Concepts.  The test is 40 multiple choice questions and one short essay on sustainability and the oceans.
Wed. 9/19 -- Notebook #1 Due (we will organize then for about 10 minutes in class) Introduction to Chapter 2 > Population.  We will do a map on population concentrations and look at density vocabulary.   HW: Finish map as necessary.
Thur.  9/20 -- Go over the test.  Grade population map. Review for the Americas map quiz.
Fri. 9/21 -- Qz: Americas map.  We will quiz both North and South America.  You do not need to know the states or provinces, but the countries, cities and physical features are all fair game.  The quiz is matching - so spelling is not an issue. Worksheet "Why is global population growing" Chapter 2, Key 2 p. 50-55. Due Monday.

Economics
Mon. 9/17 -- Complete debrief on collective bargaining and Tacoma strike (they settled!). Review for the test over Unit 1 - Economic concepts and Labor
Tue. 9/18 -- Test on Unit 1 -- The test includes vocab, a PPF graph and multiple choice.  There are two short essays.  Notebook packet with calendar due.
Wed. 9/19 -- Introduction to Microeconomics.  What is Demand, D and QD.  What factors affect demand?  Some notes and a small group project. Join a small group and create questions on demand. HW: Interview 5 people about their demand for a product. 
Thur. 9/20 -- Go over the test. Crash Course economics on Demand. Complete the calculations on the demand project.  Write your conclusion.
Fri. 9/21 -- Notes from a short powerpoint on marginal utility and elasticity. Questions from the textbook, Chapter 4, Assessment, p. 122-123, questions 1,3,6,9,11, &15.

September 10-14, 2019

AP Human Geography
Mon. 9/10 -- Collected maps of Latin America.  Worksheet on Key issue 3 Globalization.  It includes some diagrams of vocab concepts such as concentration and pattern.  Due tomorrow.
Tue. 9/11 -- Correct worksheet and go over the vocabulary words.  Mini-research reports on diffusion.  Each class period created one slide show with examples of different types of diffusion.  Go to the google classroom to view.  If you were absent, pick up directions for the report. HW: Read and mark up the National Geographic article.
Wed. 9/12 -- Notes on Chapter 1 Key Issue 4 -- Sustainability.  Either copy notes from a friend or reid key issue 4 and copy the vocabulary words.  Hw: Study for the quiz on key issues 3-4.  Most of the quiz is matching vocabulary and their are 8 multiple choice questions. 
Thur. 9/13 -- Quiz Chapter 1, Key Issues 3-4.  Logging into our book (finally).  This will take about 20 minutes.  Watch and take notes on the TED talk "Save the oceans, feed the world," by Jackie Savitz.  I have a graphic organizer, but you can talk notes if you were absent.
Fri. 9/14 -- Latin America map.  I have a slide show with the maps on google classroom if you are absent. You will need to pick up the directions and a map:)

Economics
Mon. 9/10 -- Graphic Organizer on the American Free Enterprise system.  Reading pages 72-76 and 82-86.
Tue. 9/11 -- Powerpoint slides on the history of unions.  I have a copy of the key slides, but you have to fill in the blanks.  Video on history of unions during the 1930's.  Some notes from the DVD.
Wed. 9/12 -- Read pages 250-257 -- Labor and Wages worksheet.  Tonight you will need to interview someone about their job. Worksheet due tomorrow.
Thur. 9/13 -- Open note quiz on the first two sections on Chapter 9 (Labor). Lessons 1-2.  You can use notes and the worksheet.  Turn in the worksheet. Collective bargaining simulation.
Fri. 9/14 -- Labor Issues today -- WA teachers strikes.

September 4-7, 2018

AP Human Geography
Tue. 9/4 -- Check out books or photocopies. 
Parents:  We are having trouble getting the on-line codes for Pearson.  Until we get the codes, I will check out all the books I have (80) and make photo copies.  I will encourage students who do not want a paper copy to take the photocopies, while we wait for the codes.    Lesson: Work on the geographic grid, scale, time zones and time space compression.  Lecture with a map to fill in.  HW: Regions assignment 
Wed. 9/5 --Reading pages 14-17. Working on vocabulary for place.  Worksheet on globalization and and region vocabulary.  HW: Study Chapter 1 Key 1-2 for vocab quiz tomorrow.

Thur. 9/6 -- Vocab matching Quiz over Chapter 1, Key Issues 1-2. Global regions and sub-regions in AP (map) notes on culture regions.
Fri. 9/7 -- Map day 1 -- North American and Canada Map.  HW: Map due on Monday 9/10

Tue. 9/4 --  Barter Simulation -- you will trade to get the stuff you want.  Assignment -- Economic systems chart.  Check out books to those who want one.  HW: Study vocab from chapter 1 list for the quiz on Wednesday.
Wed. 9/5 -- Quiz on Chapter 1 vocabulary -- matching.  PowerPoint notes on economic systems. Look at Market system and discuss the advantages and disadvantages. 
Open House tonight.  See the school website for time information. 
Thur. 9/6 -- Chromebook research modern countries.  We will look at a range of economic statistics and discuss how to identify economic systems.   Go over the quiz.
Fri. 9/7 -- Present country reports.  Discuss economic goals and then rank economic systems (capitalism, communism and socialism) in how they meet different goals.  Partner project.
