World Geography
Mon. 1/28 -- Hand out books, students will complete maps of Middle America.  There will be a quiz on this map on Wednesday 2/6
Tue. 1/29 -- A few minutes to finish up the maps,  Read p. 228-229 on the Caribbean.  Power point on the Caribbean -- Ms. Fenton's own slides from her trip! Also a few extra :)
Wed. 1/30 -- Map of South America.  Review the map standards and finding information from a map.  We will review both maps at the end of class.  This map and the Middle America map will be combined on the quiz, 2/6.
Thur. 1/31 -- Read pages 201-205, Landforms and Resources.  Review Latin America maps using the power point,  Notes will be taken form the power point showing the physical features divided into mountains, water, resources and forrests. Students will catagories slides from the slide show.  Borrow notes and copy if you are absent.
Fri. 2/1 -- Day 1 in the library working on the Latin American Resources map.  Each student will be assigned a country in LA and will hand-draw a resource map for that country.  We will work Friday and Monday on the project.

Ancient Medieval
Mon. 1/28 -- DVD notes on Minotaur island (copy from classmate). Hand out books.  Worksheet to introduce the Mycenaeans.  Read pages 123-126 and complete the worksheet.
Tue. 1/29 -- Group project on Mycenae.  We will get into groups of four and map a map showing the key points of this ancient city.  If you are absent you can do a smaller version. 
Wed. 1/30 -- About 15 minutes to finish Mycenae.  Power point on the Iron Age of Greece. Get notes from a classmate.  We will also spend about 5 minutes reviewing the map of the quiz.
Thur. 1/31 -- Map quiz of Greece.  Comparision assignment with a partner comparing Athens and Sparta.  Get a copy of the directions if you are absent.
Fri. 2/1 -- Introduce Persia (quickly).  Map of Persia.

Art History
Mon. 1/28 -- Power point graphic organizer on the causes and effects of the Protestant Reformation.  Begin Luther (movie).
Tue. 1/29 -- Luther
Wed. 1/30--  Luther. Art Cards, Mannerism 1-7 DUE
Thur. 1/31 -- Slide Lecture on the Northern Renaissance and the Spanish Counter-Reformation.
Fri. 2/1 -- Notes on the Counter Reformation (about 20 Minutes).  Then a partner project looking a counter-reformation and portestant-reformation documents about art.  Students may read and discuss this in small groups.

World Geography
Wed. 1/23 -- Introduction and syllbus/policies.  These need to be signed by parent or guardian.  Pre-Quiz on continents, oceans, rivers. 
Thur. 1/24 -- Cartography review and longitude and latitude.  We will also do a quick map of plate boundaries and use it for a discussion of mountains as we move through the course. Students will label plates and fault boundaries as convergent, divergent and transform.  Use page 37 in text if absent (or look on line for a tectonic plates map).
Fri. 1/25 -- QZ: on Continents and oceans. Work on the five themes of geography.  If absent read pages 5-9 and define the five themes.

Ancient Medieval
Wed. 1/23 -- Introduction and syllbus/policies. What are the characteristics of a civilization?  Group work with scenarios to develop these characteristics.  The notes will go in your notebook.
Thur. 1/24 -- Introduction to Greece. Map of Greece and timeline of Greek events. Page numbers on the assignment.
Fri. 1/25 -- Thinking like a archaeologists.  The class will look at slides of Minoan Crete as find information on economic, palace life, religion and the role of women.  What was the fate of the Minoans?  What can we learn about a civilization when we cannot read their records? There is a worksheet with notes and short essay on the back.

Art History
Wed. 1/23 -- Introduction and syllbus/policies.  Lecture/discussion on the visual elements.
Thur. 1/24 -- Renaissance review and basic terms of architecture.  Architecture assignment (pick up a packet).
Fri. 1/25 -- Lecture on Mannerism.  Notes for art cards. Pair reading (hopefully).

Economics
Mon. 1/7 -- Discuss Fiscal Cliff legislation.  Introduce Globalization p. 501-507, Questions p. 507 Q 2-6.
Tue. 1/8-- Watch DVD "People's Republic of China" trade links between China and the US.Students will take notes showing the connections between China and the US in trade.  10 connections needed in notes, borrow and copy for grade
Wed. 1/9 -- Notes on Regional Trade Cooperatives (EU, NAFTA etc.) Hand out reading on the European Union Debt Crisis (hopefully some time for silent reading).
Thur. 1/10 -- Project on the European Debt Crisis.  We will do a jigsaw where students with different articles (see Wednesday) will write and share about the Debt crisis. Discussion at the end of the period.
Fri. 1/11 -- Global Resource Issues -- We will read articles from National Geographic about resource issues (from Tuna to fracking). Students will take notes and read today.  -- Assignment continues with presentations on Monday. 

Art History
Mon. 1/7 -- Review characteristics of the Renaissance.  Powerpoint and review of notebook.  Students will complete a map showing the Age of Exploration.  What new cultures will begin to affect art and government in Europe?
Tue. 1/8 -- Review sheet for the Renaissance. AC 91-100 are DUE :) the last set for the semester.
Wed. 1/9 -- Art review for the Renaissance.  We will look at the 25 slides for this unit and practice some unknowns.  Review vocabulary words.
Thur. 1/10 -- Renaissance art test
Fri. 1/11 -- Art of the Americans.  Powerpoint show and art project.  AP students will have an assignment attached to this period.  Notebook #6 DUE

Mon. 1/7 -- England :) Notes on the foundation of the parliment in England.  Primary Source reading from the Magna Carta -- What rights from the Magna Carta are still part of our world today?
Tue. 1/8 -- Social History Project -- Groups will complete a project on the social history of Europe in the 12th century.  Students will also read the section in the book and complete the worksheet. p. 387-392
Wed. 1/9 -- Second day on Social History project
Thur. 1/10 -- Disaster of the 14th century.  Short video on the Black Death. Notes will be taken using a graphic organizer for this lecture.
Fri. 1/11 -- This s a change from the calendar -- we are so lucky that I have an awesome new book on battles.  Students will work in small groups to briefly describe on of the major battles of the Hundred Year's War.  Groups will average 4 members and will show the tactics of the battle.  We will then take notes on the Hundred Year's War inserting battles as they come.  If you are gone get a copy of the notes and write a brief battle analysis of the Battle of Agincourt or the Seige of Orleans.

Economics
Mon. 12/17 -- Read introduction to trade p. 441-443. Lecture on absolute advantage and comparative advantage.  Read. 446 the Virgin Group.
Tue. 12/18 -- Make a T-Chart comparing the ideas of protectionism and free trade.  Use the text p. 448-452 to provide information for the chart.  As you read please look carefully each section has the protectionist argument first and then the free trade argument -- they are clear in the reading, but you need to read.  The heading says "arguments for protection" but in the reading it has both.  Do the first five blue headings.  Define Tarrif and Quota.
Wed. 12/19 -- Short lecture (w/ notes) on trade history and the WTO.  We will then divide into groups and look at different conflicts with the WTO.  You will have to get an article from me and do a summary to make up this work. Get a copy of the notes.
Thur. 12/20 -- Open note quiz on trade.  Economic Development worksheet.

In class we are looking at types of unemployment.  Make a cartoon showing the five types of unemployment. Read pages 369-375.  The five sources of unemployment are on pages 372-373 (but will will also discuss how unemployment is measured and the effects of unemployment).  Make a cartoon that clearly illustrates each type of unemployment,

Ecnonomics
Mon. 12/3 -- Computer lab to work on Corporation Project powerpoints.  Students will have four days to complete this research.  Each group will turn in a power point on an American corporation, showing it products, financials, career opportunities, current issues and good works.  Full directions are available in class.
-- Some students will use this time to work on their culminating portfolios.  The CP binders are part of graduation requirements.

Mon. 12/3 -- Test on the High Medieval period -- Romanesque and Gothic art
Tue. 12/4 -- Analyzing painting:  How do you analyze a painting?  What is subject, context and symbolism to look for in art.  Notes.
Wed. 12/5 -- Early Northern Renaissance Art (ENR) lecture.  Notes will introduce the context of the Renaissance in northern Europe. 
Thur. 12/6 -- Map of the Italian city states.  Students will complete a map and take notes on the major Italian city -states that will figure in the history of art.  If you finish at home: Do Rome, Florence and Venice for your notes, look on-line, focus on the years from 1400-1525 and take four bullet notes for each city-state.  Finish the map.
Fri. 12/7 -- Art Cards on the ENR are due. Graphic organizer on the Italian Renaissance and the Quatrocento.  Get the graphic organizer form and use the text and pictures to learn the background of the Renaissance.

Mon. 12/3 --Finish presentations on the Vikings.  What is Feudalism in Europe and how did it develop?  Feudalism activity and discussion of early Medieval feudalism.  English royal family with Alfred the Great (family tree for fun)
Tue. 12/4 -- Lecture on Castles and Knights.  Reading "The Art of Courtly Love," primary source document.  Students will read the rules and choose three that are still good, three that need minor edits, and three that are quite out of date.  If absent copy the notes and collect a copy of "The art of Courtly Love," to complete the assignment.

Wed. 12/5 -- Quiz on Feudalism and knights vocab.  Mini-lecture on lay investiture and reading of the letters from Henry the IV to Gregory the VII about the controversy.  Students will re-write the letters in their own words as a summary. 
Thur. 12/7 -- Finish letters, starts Castles, technology and sieges.  Students pairs will make a model of a medieval castle on tag board with construction paper and write about the history of that castle. Handouts on each castle provided in class.
Fri. 12/8 -- Finish castles and read about siege weapons (hopefully).
