Mon. 11/26 -- Review for Map Final, focus on physical features (you will get a list and map) and review countries.  Use the purple list of countries and cities to study.
Tue. 11/27 -- Review for Map Final -- Finish country review and work on the cities.  Study hard tonight!
Wed. 11/28 -- Map Final -- 90 questions in one hour.  15 physical features; 45 countries and 30 cities. 
Thur. 11/29 -- Go over the culture exam.  Introduction to religious distribution.  What is the difference between universalizing and ethnic religions?  Notes and maps :)

Thur. 11/15 -- Global English as a Lingua Franca, notes.  CRQ Essay assigned that is due on Monday 11/19. HW: Study for the Asia Map quiz.  80% of the quiz is on the Asia map and about 20% is from the Middle East map. 
Fri. 11/16 -- Qz Asia Map.  When finished with the quiz work on your Africa map. Slides are posted in the google classroom .HW: Weekend write your essay on English and Lingua Franca.

Tue. 11/13 -- Notes on Economic growth and what creates economic growth.  We will divide up into groups of 3 and examine demographic data and look at population trends in the US and how economic growth affects poverty and unemployment.  Slide show work in google classroom.
Wed. 11/14 -- Business Cycles p. 366-371.  Chapter 13, Lesson 1.  Get a copy of the questions if you are absent.  Watch Crash Course Economis #12 and discuss the 2008 Great Recession.  Pair up to make a chart to compare 2008 to 1929.
Thur. 11/15 -- ASVAB Interpretation Course.  Remainder of class will work on Corporation Project.
Fri. 11/16 -- Inflation Crash Course #7.  Worksheet with the on-line video.  Questions on the back about the CPI and inflation.

Mon. 11/5 -- Introduction to languages. Notes and definitions.  Begin language project research. You will be assigned to a group and develop a slide show about one of the language families in Chapter 5, Key Issue 1-2. 
Tue. 11/6 -- Continue and finish the slide shows.
Wed. 11/7 -- Begin presentations.  We will do about 6 presentations. There is a new chart so you can take notes during the presentations  The History of English in 10 minutes and  notes.
Thur. 11/8 -- Finish Presentations and discuss.  Read about the origins, diffusion and influence of Indo-European and English.  We will do a map of the diffusion and read about the Nomadic Warrior and Sedentary Farmer hypothesis.
Fri. 11/9 -- Quiz on Asia Map. : 16 countries; 10 cities and 6 physical features.  Most of the quiz is form the Asia map -- about 80%.

Economics
Mon. 11/5 -- ASVAB testing for juniors in room 2503.  Seniors will watch "Joined at the Hip" a new DVD on US and China trade.

Mon. 10/29 -- Material Culture review.  Read pages 122-123 the distribution of Folk and Popular Housing.  Review environmental influences on houses and sacred spaces.  Powerpoint show on Folk and Popular Housing in the U.S.  Assignment to describe each folk style (p.124) and identify the style of your home and write a 5 sentence description of how the house style fits the environment and the needs of your family.
Tue. 10/30 -- Quiz on Chapter 4, Key Issues 1-2.  There are 8 vocabulary and 8 multiple choice questions.  Notes on Access of social media.  If absent read Chapter 4, Key issue 3 and then borrow someone's notes to copy.
Wed. 10/31 -- Read intro to Chapter 4, Key issue 4 (p. 132-133). Video on Australian Aborigines.  Get video notes if you are absent.  We are studying disappearing folk cultures.

Thur. 10/25 -- Begin the company profile. You can do it on a google document, but we will have to print them. 
Fri. 10/26 -- Finish the company profile.  Printing in the library.  Turn in the Stock Research worksheet and your printed company profile.  Together they are worth 50 points.

Mon. 10/8 -- Migration Basics and map Due; Obituary Activity -- We will use obituaries to map internal migration within the U.S.  Students will analyze migration patterns to see if intraregional or interregional migration is more common.  They will hypothesize why there is a pattern.
Tue. 10/9 -- Go over the Population chapter quiz.  Review the DTM.  Power point on Migration, Key Issue 3. Where to people migrate within a country.  Case studies of Russia, China and Brazil.

Tue. 10/2 -- DVD "Population Paradox" section on Sub-Saharan Africa and disease.  Research teams on world diseases, maps.  Assignment on Google classroom.
Wed. 10/3 -- How to measure health (end of C2K4).Health chart and predicting life expectancy. Note cards out for the quiz.  HW: Students will be able to make a 5X8 note card to use on the chapter 2 quiz tomorrow.  Students may fill one side of the card only. 
Thur. 10/4 -- Chapter 2 unit quiz (open note). Map Day #4 Russia Map. HW: Map due Friday.

Mon 10/1 -- News on Tesla ($20 million fine) Watch Movie: "Tucker a Man and His Dream" Reading response questions provided. Students do one question really well.
Tue. 10/2 -- Finish "Tucker: A Man and his Dream" We will go right up to the end of class. I may have to fast forward about 5 minutes to finish. Great courtroom drama at the end.
Wed. 10/3 -- Reading response DUE. Powerpoint notes on market failure -- discussion.  Student will search local newspaper to find real examples of market failure.  They can work in groups or solo, but student will define the four types of market failure and explain how their examples meet the definition of market failure. We get to use scissors and glue :)
Thur. 10/4 -- Regulatory agencies:  What regulatory agencies does the U.S. have.  Students will work with a partner to explore the purpose and duties one one regulatory agency.  We will debrief at the end of class. 
Fri. 10/5 -- Monopolies are a fifth type of market failure.  That is why the FTC works to stop monopolies.  Current event reading on monopolies.

Mon. 9/24 -- DVD: Population Paradox: India, How to use gapminder.org and homework using gapminder to look up trends in life expectancy and TFR.
Tue. 9/25 -- Grade gapminder assignment.  Small group activity on population pyramids (this has no make-up assignment, but students should look at some pyramids to analyze trends.  HW: Graphing CDR and CBR in Sweden and Mexico (assignment on google drive).
Wed. 9/26 -- Lecture on the demographic transition model -- C2K3 (p. 56-57) Using the graphs from last night's homework students will answer questions about the DTM in Sweden and Mexico. Handout on the vocabulary crossword puzzles. HW: Finish any questions as necessary.
Thur. 9/27 -- Intro TEDtalk on "Global Population: Box by Box"  by Hans Rosling. PP notes on Birthrates and Malthus C2 K3 (p. 58-63).  Note:the internet went out in the afternoon, so not everyone was able to watch the Ted Talk. city-wide interruption with Chapter.

Mon. 9/17 -- Review for the test. Go through reading from National Geographic on sustainability along Baja Peninsula. HW: Study for the test -- review your three pillar notes on the oceans and work on the vocabulary words.  Quizlet.com = JonnieFenton
Tue. 9/18 -- Test over unit 1: Geographic Concepts.  The test is 40 multiple choice questions and one short essay on sustainability and the oceans.
Wed. 9/19 -- Notebook #1 Due (we will organize then for about 10 minutes in class) Introduction to Chapter 2 > Population.  We will do a map on population concentrations and look at density vocabulary.   HW: Finish map as necessary.
Thur.  9/20 -- Go over the test.  Grade population map. Review for the Americas map quiz.
Fri. 9/21 -- Qz: Americas map.  We will quiz both North and South America.  You do not need to know the states or provinces, but the countries, cities and physical features are all fair game.  The quiz is matching - so spelling is not an issue. Worksheet "Why is global population growing" Chapter 2, Key 2 p. 50-55. Due Monday.

Tue. 9/18 -- Test on Unit 1 -- The test includes vocab, a PPF graph and multiple choice.  There are two short essays.  Notebook packet with calendar due.
Wed. 9/19 -- Introduction to Microeconomics.  What is Demand, D and QD.  What factors affect demand?  Some notes and a small group project. Join a small group and create questions on demand. HW: Interview 5 people about their demand for a product. 
Thur. 9/20 -- Go over the test. Crash Course economics on Demand. Complete the calculations on the demand project.  Write your conclusion.
Fri. 9/21 -- Notes from a short powerpoint on marginal utility and elasticity. Questions from the textbook, Chapter 4, Assessment, p. 122-123, questions 1,3,6,9,11, &15.

AP Human Geography
Mon. 9/10 -- Collected maps of Latin America.  Worksheet on Key issue 3 Globalization.  It includes some diagrams of vocab concepts such as concentration and pattern.  Due tomorrow.
Tue. 9/11 -- Correct worksheet and go over the vocabulary words.  Mini-research reports on diffusion.  Each class period created one slide show with examples of different types of diffusion.  Go to the google classroom to view.  If you were absent, pick up directions for the report. HW: Read and mark up the National Geographic article.
Wed. 9/12 -- Notes on Chapter 1 Key Issue 4 -- Sustainability.  Either copy notes from a friend or reid key issue 4 and copy the vocabulary words.  Hw: Study for the quiz on key issues 3-4.  Most of the quiz is matching vocabulary and their are 8 multiple choice questions. 
Thur. 9/13 -- Quiz Chapter 1, Key Issues 3-4.  Logging into our book (finally).  This will take about 20 minutes.  Watch and take notes on the TED talk "Save the oceans, feed the world," by Jackie Savitz.  I have a graphic organizer, but you can talk notes if you were absent.
Fri. 9/14 -- Latin America map.  I have a slide show with the maps on google classroom if you are absent. You will need to pick up the directions and a map:)

AP Human Geography
Tue. 9/4 -- Check out books or photocopies. 
Parents:  We are having trouble getting the on-line codes for Pearson.  Until we get the codes, I will check out all the books I have (80) and make photo copies.  I will encourage students who do not want a paper copy to take the photocopies, while we wait for the codes.    Lesson: Work on the geographic grid, scale, time zones and time space compression.  Lecture with a map to fill in.  HW: Regions assignment 
Wed. 9/5 --Reading pages 14-17. Working on vocabulary for place.  Worksheet on globalization and and region vocabulary.  HW: Study Chapter 1 Key 1-2 for vocab quiz tomorrow.

Tue. 8/28 -- Go over class syllabus and policies.  What is Geography?  Powerpoint and assignment on how to write a geography essay.  Directions are in Google classroom. HW: Place Essay
Wed. 8/29 -- Short video and small group assignment on different types of map projections.  What are the advantages and disadvantages of different projections. HW: Print a map tonight showing data that you find interesting. Include the source.
Thur. 8/30 -- Definitions and samples of different types of map.  Use homework to identify different types of maps.  Categorilla using mapchart.net.  HW: You will make a choropleth map showing a top 10 from our list using mapchart.net
Fri. 8/31 --  Historical and modern map making -- Take notes on a powerpoint.  What is the difference between GIS, GPS and remote sensing.  Use your categorilla map to do a level 4 map analysis. HW: Read pages 4-13, Chapter 1 Key 1.

Economics
Tue. 8/28 -- Welcome to economics, syllabus and policies.  Small group project on goods and services.  HW: Students need to interview 5 teens about their purchases of goods and services over the last month.  Bring back the data on Wednesday.
Wed. 8/29 -- Rejoin groups and compile data.  Complete analysis of data and write a conclusion about the data and hypothesis.  Due today and short presentations. 
Thur. 8/30 -- Begin the vocabulary for chapter 1.  Students will use google classroom to complete a slide with a vocabulary word. Each student or pair will present their word.
Fri. 8/31 -- Finish presentations and complete the vocabulary puzzle.  Book log-on and access.  Quiz for this vocab list will be Wednesday 9/5.

Mon. 5/14 -- Political Geography Table Games -- Review Chapter 8.  I even went into the curriculum guide and added in extra stuff!
Tue. 5/15 -- Write two CRQ essays in 50 minutes or less.  This will help your pacing for the actual AP Test.  I will grade one and you will grade one.  Scoring rubrics help to understand stronger and weaker answers and how to earn more points.
Wed. 5/16 -- Review scoring rubrics.  Half of class to review chapter 10 -- Agriculture.  I have a sheet to fill in with the lecture.
Thursday 5/17 -- Part of class to review Factories and Industrialization.  Part of class to relax and make up questions with a set of answers.
Friday 5/18 -- AP Human Geography Test.  Bring some lunch.  Two pencils, blue or black pen. layers of clothing and a watch.  In class we will watch Discovery Atlas Japan.  Good luck!!😊

Mon. 5/14 -- How fiscal and monetary policy work.  A big chart with groups. Hopefully I can gather more notebooks. I am missing about half!

Fri. 5/18 -- Compare Free trade and Protectionist trade.  Make a -T-chart showing arguments about trade. p. 501-505.  Make three columns, one for Free Trade, one for an image and one for Protectionism.  p. 503-505 has "arguments for protection" This section also has the countering free-trade argument. For each a) write the protectionist argument (in times of war, the U.S. need to be self-sufficient) the free trade argument (not promoting specialization causes low productivity and expensive supply) finally your need and image for each.  Do not do supporting national pride -- it's not a very economic argument.  Define both tariff and quota.

AP Human Geography
Mon. 5/7 -- Review the Urban test from last week.  Go over the test basics.  How to study, where to focus your time.  Material to bring (pencils, and blue or black pens, layers of clothing).
Tue. 5/8 -- 2016 Practice Test for multiple choice questions.  I also handed out a scoring guide to estimate your AP score.
Wed. 5/9 -- Review of the 25 most missed questions on the practice test.  Culture review powerpoint with questions -- it is posted on our google classroom page.
Thur. 5/10 -- Culture Jeopardy day.
Fri. 5/11 -- FRQ scramble.  We looked at about 10 FRQ essay questions from previous years.  Students wrote essay outlines and then we looked at the questions.  I recommend students go to AP Central and look at the AP Human Geography Exam.  They can see past questions, scoring guides and sample essays.
One week until the AP test :)

Economics
Mon. 5/7 -- Review notes on the national debt (p. 417-422) and take the open-note National Debt quiz.  In 6th period we had a brief amount of time to review the material from the tax truths assignment.
Tue. 5/8 -- Fiscal Policy worksheet.  Part 1 -- Watch Crash Course Economics #8 on Fiscal Policy and answer the questions. Part 2-3 can be found in the text.
Wed. 5/9 -- Worksheet on the structure of the Federal Reserve.  The worksheet covers the parts of the Fed and the major responsibilities for ordinary operations. Watch EconMovies Despicable Me, which will review the role of the Federal Reserve. 
Thur. 5/10 -- Monetary Policy.  I have a lot of notes to review the Fed and go over the tools of monetary policy.  The notes review the structure and cover the duties of the Fed chair, Board of Governors and FOMC.  Know this.  We also went over the three tools of monetary policy.  We finished in class with the Fed Chairman Game -- easily searchable.  It is good review, but there is nothing to turn in .  Unless you get reappointed and then you get candy!
Fri. 5/11 -- Collected Notebook #5.  Watched Crash Course Economics #10 on monetary policy.  Then we played Table Games -- a review for the unit.  Nothing specific to make-up, but I need notebooks.  Good luck APUSH people.

Thur. 4/26 -- TED talk: " Greening the Ghetto" by Majora Carter.  There is a sheet with questions, so look in the file.  On-line activity from PBS on "10 Parks that Changed America."  Discussion of why parks are important.  Characteristics of city planning.

Mon. 4/9 -- Introduction to Central Place Theory.  Assignment intro and hexagon pattern for our local area looking at range and threshold issues for cities, towns, villages and hamlets. 
Tue. 4/10 -- Finish Central Place Theory assignment.  Discuss findings at the end.  Did students see a pattern?
Wed. 4/11 -- Rank-size cities and Primate cities.  Definitions and graphs of countries and city sizes.  Which countries follow which rule?
Thur. 4/12 -- Global Cities and services.  We start with questions and a powerpoint show and discussion.  Students will finish reading and complete the worksheet.  Chapter 12, Key issue 3, p. 442-447.
Fri. 4/13 -- Powerpoint on the history of urbanization.  Assignment to diagram rural settlement patterns -- basically read p. 448-451 in Chapter 12, Key issue 4.  Diagram clustered and linear settlement patterns. Take some notes on clusters in Colonial America and the development of dispersed rural settlements in the U.S.
NOTE: There is a chapter 12 quiz on Monday.  Get a unit review sheet.

Mon. 4/9 -- EconMovie #5 Cars (watch on-line for review). We will review GDP and demographics quickly and divide up into groups of 2-3 to look at demographic data from the U.S.  Data summaries will be added to a diagram on the board. If we are ready, Quiz on GDP and Demographics. We may take the quiz on Tuesday.
Tue. 4/10 -- On-line video from SF Fed "The New Geography of Jobs" by Enrico Moretti.  You can watch it on YouTube.  Comparing city demographics in class.
Wed. 4/11 -- Business Cycles.  Questions from the document camera.  It will take about 15-20 minutes to do the questions and correct them.  Crash Course Economics video on 2008 Financial Crisis.  I will introduce the video with some vocabulary.  Compare and contrast the causes, depth and results of the Great Depression 1929 with the Great Recession of 2008.
Thur. 4/12 -- "Where would you like to live" research assignment.
Fri. 4/13 -- Crash Course #7 on Inflation (there is a lot of good material out there).  There are questions to go with the video and an on-line assignment at the Minneapolis Fed about the CPI.

Mon. 3/19 -- Review Activity for Chapter 9. Students will create a chapter review card on a 5X8 index card (provided in class).  They can use their review card on the quiz. Quiz Chapter 9 - Development. 
Tue. 3/20 -- Industrial Revolution on Crash Course World history #32.  Worksheet on the industrial revolution with a map of the U.S. and early industrial areas.
Wed. 3/21 -- Introduced Weber's model on factory site and situation factors.  Very short lecture (5 slides) and reading pp 398-411.  Students will break into groups of four and site a factory in the United States.  The choices are copper, auto, potato chip and clothing (textile).  Each person in the group will take one factory and do an independent project. DUE Friday 3/23.

Fri. 3/23 -- Watch 20 minutes of American Car DVD.  Finish Factory Project. Due by 3 p.m.
Remember there is a QUIZ on factories in a CRQ format on Monday.  The "Quiz" will be added to your test score as the essay for the test on 3/29.

Tue. 3/20 --- Making a financial plan -- worksheet and discussion on how to invest.
Wed. 3/21 -- Begin the Stock project.  I will begin with a lesson on how to read a stock report on yahoo.finance and how to use the information on the site.  It is amazing!  Day one students will begin the project with four stocks to research (randomly chosen from a spreadsheet).
Thur. 3/22 -- Begin stock profile on a single stock form your list of four.  In-depth research on that stock. You can prepare this on google classroom.  We will print on Friday.
Fri. 3/23 -- MEET in the LIBRARY.  We will finish the stock project and print.  Turn in both the stock research (20 points) and the stock profile (30 points) Total 50 points.  Due by 3 p.m.

Thur. 3/15 -- TED talk How we can make the world a better place by Michael Green.  There is room on the worksheet for the TED talk notes.  Questions bout the Millennium Development goals and the UN sustainability goals.

Tue. 3/6 -- Development Statistics -- Power point on how to use development statistics and vocabulary for the unit.  We will go over the multiple choice questions on the test.
Wed. 3/7 -- Development chart -- Students will use data in the text to look at the development level of a group of countries.  Data and analysis due.
Thur. 3/8 -- International Women's Day!  Internet on development statistics and the GII (gender inequality index).  How index data are complied at the UN. Reading from USA today about the GII.  Study Key issue 1-2 over the weekend.  We have a quiz on Monday.  It is multiple choice.

Mon 2/26 -- Short slide show project on the role of women in agriculture.  The directions are posted on the google classroom.  If you are absent pick three of the boxes and do a shorter slide show.  Do a mix of challenges and successes. This is a one day project -- keep the slides short. Due 2/27.
Tue. 2/27 -- Agricultural markets and Von Thunen.  We have a slide show on the Von Thunen model and an activity to complete.  Read page 378-379 in the text.
Wed. 2/28 -- Increasing the World's Food Supply.  Watch a TED talk "Four fish we are overeating" by Paul Greenberg.  How are we stressing the oceans and how can aquaculture help? Take notes.
Begin worksheet/chart on ways to increase food production.
Thur. 3/1-- Discuss the ideas on food production.  Look at data on food waste, increasing farming productivity, GMO's and sustainability.  How will we feed people in 2050?  Notebook #8 DUE
Fri. 3/2 -- Agriculture review day.  -- NOTE our Agriculture test will include review from chapter 4. Study both chapters 10 and 4.

Thur. 3/1 -- Webquest on Regulatory Agencies. Students will explore the U.S. regulatory agencies and what they do in a web-based assignment.  Students will work in partners because there are only 13 agencies to split up :)
Fri. 3/2 -- Digital monopolies -- What is going on with Netflix, Google, Amazon and Apple?  Why are they in court for monopoly practices?  Reading and discussion.

Tue. 2/20 -- Finish the small group project on agriculture.  Small groups are looking up information on agriculture in the developing world.  They are defining, explaining and drawing diagrams.  We started on Friday and will finish today.
Wed. 2/21 -- Agriculture in the developed world.  Lecture with notes and a map.  We are working on learning the 11 agricultural regions described by D. Wittelsey in 1936. 
Thur. 2/22 -- Webquest on challenges in agriculture. This project uses both the text and on-line sources.  It will be posted on the google classroom site on Wednesday. 
Parent Teacher Conferences 4-7 p.m.
Friday 2/23 [half-day] -- CRQ on one of the agricultural zones. I will double the score and count it as a quiz.  It will be one in the developing world.  Study a little :)

Thur. 1/25 -- Quick Grade of worksheet on the Development of States.  Ted Talk by Parag Khanna "Maps of Future Countries.  American Devolution activity with a small group.
Fri. 1/26 -- Soviet Union devolution.  Mini lecture and notes -- how to divide up the region around the Caucasus Mountains p. 272-273.  You have a map and get to design new countries.

Economics
Tue. 1/23 -- Go over the syllabus and policies.  Goods and Services Activity.  Interview 5 people about goods and services they have purchased in the last month.  Try and get five goods and five services from each person you interview.
Wed. 1/24 -- Get together with your group and go over the data.  Find the percentages of items purchased and then compare the real results to your hypothesis.  Share the results of your research.
Thur. 1/25 -- Begin Chapter 1.  Work with small groups on the vocabulary.  Each pair will have a vocabulary word/concept which they will explain to the entire class.  There is a vocabulary sheet to fill in and a puzzle for review.
Fri. 1/26 -- Finish vocab presentations.  Get to know you activity.

Tue. 1/9 -- Ethnic Diversity in SW Asia.  Students will color a map of Iraq showing the different ethnic groups and complete a chart about SW Asia. p. 244-245 in the book. HW: Read pages 240-243 tonight.  Finish your presentation. Due tomorrow.
Wed. 1/10 -- Ethnic Conflict presentations due.  Students will have a note sheet to keep track of locations, ethnic groups and conflict types.  Today Lebanon, Sri Lanka, South Asia, Kurds.  HW: Reading on Kosovo.
Thur. 1/11 -- Worksheet on the Balkans.  Discuss Kosovo
