Janaury 2-6, 2012

Geography
Mon. 1/2 --Reviw LA maps.  Readpages 201-205 and take notes on a power point on Latin American landscaptes.  The notes are turned in for credit.  We will do the map activity on p. 206 together.
Tue. 1/3 -- First day in the library to work on the Latin American resources map.  Each student will draw a country in LA and complete the map with topography and resources.  (2 days)
Wed. 1/4 -- See Tuesday, 2nd day.
Thur. 1/5 -- Video of Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands.  Worksheet with video. Get a sheet from a classmate and copy the answers.
Fri. 1/6 -- LA Resource maps are DUE.  History of LA worksheet. 

Economics
Mon. 1/2 -- Introduction to trade. Read p. 441-443.  Lecture notes on trade and comparative and absolute advantage.  (notes used on upcoming quiz).  Read 446.
Tue. 1/3 -- Read p. 448-452.  Make a chart comparing the "Free trade" and "protectionist" arguement for the different ideas about trade (infant industries, etc.).  The title in the book is arguments for protection, but in the reading the "free trade" argument is at the end of each section.  Include all 6 arguments for protection in your chart.  Define tariff and quota.
Wed. 1/4 -- Mini-lecture on trade history and the WTO (use on quiz).  Readings on WTO disputes.
Thur. 1/5 -- Quiz on trade factors and history (open note).  Complete the worksheet on Economic Development.  
Fri. 1/6 -- Read pages 5601-507. On page 507 do questions 2-6.

Ancient Medieval
Mon. 1/2 -- Introduction to the Crusades.  Primary source reading (yellow packet) and notes on the crusades.
Tue. 1/3  -- Kingdom of Heaven (part 1)
Wed. 1/4 -- Kingdom of Heaven (part 2)
Thur. 1/4 -- Results of the Crusades and the Reconquista.  Writing assignment discussed.
Fri. 1/6 -- Quick -- History of England.  Read the Magna Carta for homework.  Underline 4 rights granted in the Magna Carta that are still honored today.
**  Essay on the Crusades is Due Monday, 1/9 or Tuesday 1/10 -- 75 points

Geography
Mon. 12/12 -- Correct the Oceania worksheet,  Read pages 698-701, discuss human environment interaction.  Begin Reveiw worksheet.
Tue. 12/13  -- Review worksheet and review game.
Wed. 12/14 -- Southeast Asia and Oceania test. Essay comparing Australia and New Zealand.
Thur. 12/15 -- Map of Latin America

Economics
Mon. 12/12 --Discuss the business cycle.  Read pages 353-359.  Do questions 2,3,4, and 7.  Due at the end of class.  Students who did culminating portfolios due today.
Tue. 12/13 -- Inflation (in class we did skits to show the different aspects of inflation.)  For make-up read pages 361-367.  Do #2 and then describe the four causes of inflation. Turn in for credit.
Wed. 12/14 -- Read p. 369-375.  Questions: What is the unemployment rate?  Why is the rate lower than the actual number of unemployed people?  What is underemployment?  Write a cartoon picture to describe the five types of unemployment (sources of unemployment) p. 372-373. List four costs that are associated with unemployment.
Thur. 12/15 -- Review for the test
Fri. 12/16 -- Test on Economic Policies

Ancient Medieval
Mon. 12/12 -- Lecture on Early Japan history,  note page.  Worked on notebooks.
Tue. 12/13 -- Notebook #5 Due.  Video on Japanese Shoguns.  Copy notes from a classmate.  Add to notebook.
Wed. 12/14 -- Review for test
Thur. 12 15 -- Test on Early Medieval and Japan.  Do assignment on Cathedrals.

Thur. 12/8 -- Lecture notes on the South Pacific.  These notes are the focus on the test essay.  Make sure you do them and turn them in.  Finish map of the South Pacific.
Fri. 12/9 -- Listening activity "Victims of Progress."  Worksheet on the history and culture of Oceania. p. 712-715.

Mon. 12/5 -- Feudalism.  erad p. 360-363.  Diagram a medieval manor and lable all 8 parts.  Define manor and write 6 bullet notes on life in a manor.
Tue.  12/6 -- Lecture notes on Knight and Castles.  Reading "Art of Courtly Love."  Find three rules that are still good, three that are terrible and three to re-write.  Turn in the rules of love.
Wed. 12/7 -- Quiz on Fuedalism vocabulary.  Begin Caslte project
Thur. 12/8 -- Finish Castle Project.  Brief discussion on siege weapons.
Fri. 12/9 -- Read pages 370-373.  Define canon law and lay investiture. do questions 2,3,5.  For #9 make a flow chart of the events of the events surrounding Henry and Gregory and law investiture in 1077.
