September 3-6, 2013

World Geography
Tue. 9/3 -- Check out books, introduction to Latin America.  Complete map of Middle America, using pages 190-199.  This unit will focus on the information to be found on different types of map and we will work with the unit atlas on the above pages.
Wed. 9/4 -- The culture of Middle America and the Caribbean.  Read pages 228-229 on the volcano of Montserrat.  Power point and lecture on the Caribbean. (notes due)
Thur. 9/5 -- Map of South America.  Read pages 240-241on Comparing Cultures.  Review map of Middle and South America.
Fri. 9/6 -- Read pages 201-205.  PowerPoint on the terrain of Latin America and more map review.  Students will list examples of LA physical features while going through the PowerPoint.

Ancient Medieval
Tue. 9/3 -- Video "Minotaur Island"  discussion about the Minoans.  Video clip on Mycenaean building techniques.  Homework to read pages 123-126 and complete the reading guide.
Wed 9/4 -- Large group maps of Mycenae. 
Thur. 9/5 -- PowerPoint notes on the Iron Ages in Greece, Map review of Greece for the map quiz on Friday.
Fri. 9/6 -- Map quiz on Greece.  Student pairs will use notes and the text to compare Athens and Sparta -- to leading Greek city states. 

Economics
Tue. 9/3 -- Finish vocabulary words.  Complete the vocabulary puzzle.  Homework economic systems chart is homework. 
Wed. 9/4 -- Bartering Simulation.  Discussion of different types of economic systems and the advantages and disadvantages of each system.  Economic Systems Chart due
Thur. 9/5 -- QZ: vocabulary for chapter 1.  PowerPoint notes on capitalism and communism. Reading about the advantages and advantages of a Market economy (p. 38). 
Fri. 9/6 -- Emerging Powers:China.  How does China work as a Communist state with a growing Capitalist economy?

Welcome Back to School

World Geography
Wednesday, 8/28 -- Class Policies and Syllabus will be given to students. Q and A over both.  We will do a pre-quiz on global features.
Thur. 8/29 -- Cartography is the topic today.  Review mapping terms and locate places using latitude and longitude.  Brief discussion of plate boundaries and a plate map will be completed. If absent define: longitude, latitude, key, map scale and equator.
Friday 8/30 -- QZ on the Continents and Oceans.  Books will be handed out and the Five Themes of Geography will be reviewed/taught with a group activity. If absent: read pages 5-9.  Describe each of the five themes of geography (for location do relative and absolute location) and provide an example not found in the section.
 
Ancient Medieval
Wednesday, 8/28 -- Class Policies and Syllabus will be given to students. Q and A over both. Group activity on the characteristics of early civilizations.  If you are gone, get notes for your notebook.  You need a 1' three-ring notebook for this class!.
Thur. 8/29 -- Introduction to Ancient Greece,  Assignment map and timeline for Greece.
Fri. 8/30 -- Minoans -- today we will be archaeologists/historians.  Looking at artifacts of the Minoans -- what can we learn about their civilization and eventual collapse.  Notes.
 
Economics
Wednesday, 8/28 -- Class Policies and Syllabus will be given to students. Q and A over both.  Begin good and services project, write hypothesis and plan date collection.  Data collection is homework the first night! 
Thur. 8/29 -- Compile data on goods and services,  Complete the assignment with data analysis and a conclusion relating to the hypothesis.  Present findings.
Fri. 8/30 -- Books out.  Vocabulary team projects for chapter 1.  Each pair of students will get a vocabulary word and create a poster to teach the word to class.  If absent get a vocabulary list and define words using the book.   Vocabulary Quiz the following Thursday.
