December 2-6, 2013

Dear parents --I will be gone from Wednesday 12/4 though the end of the week. 

World Geography
Mon. 12/2 -- Graphic organizer on religions of India (Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism).  Students will do a graphic organizer (complete with symbols)showing the basic beliefs of the religion, date and place it was founded, founder, name of religious building, holy book and symbol.  We did a similar assignment for the world religions founded in the Middle East.
Tue. 12/3 -- Lecture about issues in south Asia (population, monsoons and unstable governments).  Discussion of Indian history in preparation for movie "Gandhi" Students missing class will need to make up notes and turn them in.
Wed. 12/4 -- Movie "Gandhi"
Thur 12/5 -- Movie "Gandhi"  Students missing the video will need to look up non-violent methods used by Gandhi to gain India's independence.  Turn in notes describing the Salt March, Cloth Boycott, and Gandhi's fast during the division of India and Pakistan.
Fri. 12/6 -- Introduce East Asia, Map of East Asia due today.

Ancient Medieval 
Mon. 12/2 -- Notes on Christendom and lay investiture.  Students will translate letter written between Henry and Gregory into more modern language.
Tue. 12/3 -- Notes on the history of Japan -- these include a small map of Japan and continue through the rise of Odo Nobunaga.
Wed. 12/4 -- Library to work on a "Japan letter" Students need a copy of the directions but briefly they will pick a very specific topic about Japan, do some research and write a letter to me about what they learned and why they picked the topic. They need to use two sources and make an informal works cited page. Typically I get a huge range of letters -- noh theater and kabuki, to kimonos, to katana blades.  Sometimes students do specific battles.
Thur. 12/5 -- Video on Japan.  Write 12 facts about the life and rise to power or Ieyasu Tokugawa.
Fri. 12/6 -- Review sheet on European Middle Ages and Japan.
TEST on Monday -- if you are gone for Levenworth - get the review sheet - your test will still be on Monday.

Economics
Mon. 12/2 -- Computer lab to work on Corporation Project or Culminating Portfolio.
Tue. 12/3 -- Repeat Monday
Wed. 12/4 -- Library to do research on different countries and their standard of living.  Students will get a "Where would you like to live" assignment with a country already listed.  They will complete the research and analysis.
Thur. 12/5 -- Students will learn about the four different types of inflation and how inflation is measured.  Begin class with notes on inflation.  Students will make skits about various topics related to inflation.  Skits will be performed in class.
Economic Current Event #2 DUE -- about 75 word summary, 125 word analysis (use vocab words) and the citation.
Fri. 12/6 -- Read pages 353-359 -- Business Cycles an Fluctuations.  Draw a business cycle labeling the peak, trough, recession and expansion. Answer questions 2,3,4 and 5.
